In response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Department of Education convened a conference yesterday to discuss the issue, and today (18) began to distribute the first batch of medical materials to schools. Mayor Lin called for attention to independent health management, saying that the Bureau of Environmental Protection will closely cooperate with the Education Department to complete the cleaning and disinfection of school open spaces and toilets before a new semester.

Director of Education Lin said that not only the preventive measures taken before the start of school, but also the temperature check should be taken into the campus afterwards. If students with body temperatures of 37.5°C or higher, they should wear a mask first, under observation in a separate space until they leave school, and ask parents to bring them to the doctor as soon as possible.

The principle of medical material distribution is depending on the size of the school, or the number of students. The allocation of forehead thermometer is one for every 200 students, the amount of mask is distributed a quarter of total student number, and rubbing alcohol is dispensed at 500c.c per 30 students. In the coming week, relevant materials from the Ministry of Education will be sent to schools. These will be used as an emergency response, so the school should use them in accordance with the epidemic prevention plan and avoid any waste.

After the school starts, in addition to making good use of prevention equipment, it is more important not to panic because of the unknown. The government also asked the schools to implement health education for students, parents and staff, and maintain a good and airy teaching environment. Schools are encouraged to make the best of smart digital devices instead of group meetings and other occasions.
